Annual Pushkar Mela 2026
Description
Experience India’s grandest cultural spectacle at the annual Pushkar Mela in Rajasthan. Drawing travelers and photographers from around the globe, this world-renowned gathering transforms the golden Thar sands into an open-air carnival of decorated camels, folk music, and vibrant bazaars. Visitors can soar above the dunes in hot air balloons, witness high-spirited turban-tying contests and camel races, and camp under the desert stars. Concluding on sacred Kartik Purnima, the festival offers an unforgettable window into authentic Rajasthani heritage, evening lake aartis, and warm desert hospitality.
Competitions such as the ‘matka phod’, ‘longest moustache’ and ‘bridal competition’ are the main draws for this fair which attracts thousands of tourists. In recent years, the fair has also included an exhibition football match between the local Pushkar Club and a team of foreign tourists.
The Pushkar Fair is celebrated every year on the holy Kartik Purnima. The full moon day in the Hindu lunar month of Kartik has been known to be very propitious. Pilgrims from far and wide come to take a dip in the holy waters of the Pushkar Lake and pray to Lord Brahma. The rolling dunes, the vibrant ambiance, and the festive colors embrace one and all.
Pro tip: Pushkar is only 150kms from Jaipur so those who are planning a Rajasthan trip in November can club their trip with a few days in Pushkar.
